I attended a networking event in Dubai last week, having previously attended the Abu Dhabi version of the same event a few weeks earlier and it led me to draw an interesting comparison; is Dubai the LA of the Emirates and if so does that make Abu Dhabi the Arabian Big Apple? People had told me about the distinct behaviours, fashions and attitudes of the two neighbouring Emirates but I had not really seen it properly for myself until this event. The Abu Dhabi event was laid back and low key, ranging widely in age, race and occupation with plenty of lively socialising, In contrast, the Dubai event was stark, uber-trendy, scarily quiet and the attendees seemingly all showed up direct from an afternoon class at design school. Lately, I have been hearing more and more about these differences and I would be keen to hear any anecdotes others have observed. Is Dubai the place to 'see and be seen' in the UAE? And will Abu Dhabi one day be the Emirati city that never sleeps?

Dubai is to LA as Abu Dhabi is to NYC?

I just like how the modern structures blend well with the environment. The beautiful buildings and the sea merge nicely. All those buildings really look great. Their designs were really the first of its kind. Marvelous.
