After reading this article in The National newspaper http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100320/NATIONAL/703199786/1133 I got to thinking about what it is that I like about living in the UAE. Granted, I haven't been here very long and I'm still discovery new parts of Abu Dhabi every day, there are a few specific things that I have really been enjoying.
Proximity: I LOVE the fact that we have a convenience store, a dry-cleaners and a green grocer all within our building. It makes those 'Oh no we've run out of milk' or 'How did I forget to buy onions' situations far less worrysome. All you have to do is pop down stairs! Even better is when you are in your pajamas and you don't feel like getting dressed just to fetch some milk, you can always just give the convenience store a call and they will bring whatever you need right to your door. Now that's what I call convenient!
Weather: Summer has always been my favourite season and as a child I would often wish for Summer to last all year around. Well it seems I have got my wish here in the UAE. Living in a country where it feels like Summer every day makes it hard to feel anything but happy. However, I should be careful what I wish for; so far I have actually only experienced Winter and the start of Spring here in the UAE. I have been warned that once I live through a Summer here that I will realise that there is such a thing as too much heat and blue skies. We'll see.
Novelty and Newness: If you are the type of person who likes to experience the hottest and the newest places around then the UAE is the place for you. Every day something new opens. It might be a new bar, or a new mall or even a new beach; there really is something for everyone!
Food: Living in a country where 80% of the population comes from elsewhere in the world means that there is a rich mingling of cultures and traditions and nowhere is this more evident than the food available. I have had some of the yummiest Indian, Lebanese and Japanese food here and if you avoid the hotels it's actually really reasonable priced.
I didn't know what heading to put for the next few things on my list of favourite things in the UAE... maybe Automotive Services?? Anyway, when my bestie visited me here in Abu Dhabi a few weeks back I was feeling particularly homesick knowing that she was soon to be back in beautiful Sydney visiting friends and family so when she asked me what my favourite thing about living in the UAE was, I came up blank and then the first thing that popped into my head was 'how you can get your car washed when you park it in the mall car park'. It sounded ridiculous at the time but I really do like some of the little services available here for people like me who don't enjoy caring for their cars. I especially appreciate how they pump the petrol for you at the service station. They will even wash your windscreen for you and you don't even need to get out of the car to pay!
Well that's all the favourite things I can think of for now. Stay tuned for the list of least favourite things!

Abu Dhabi won't disappoint people who comes to their place. There are really lots of things happening in there and events to attend to.
